Dr Andy Franklyn-Miller has completed 5 research trials to date on the identification of lower limb injury patterns and a randomized controlled trial involving over 400 subjects to identify the reduction of injury during training. This work was done in conjunction with the Ministry of Defence, Royal Navy and University for Bath and he is submitting this for an award of PhD in 2010.

Andy approaches lower limb injury with a biomechanical assessment using the RSScan pressure plate complete with a detailed history and examination. Often in runners the cause of lower limb injury is as a result of training changes either surface or load, but can cause pain and symptoms from the buttock to the foot.

Iliotibial band syndrome is a misnomer and is caused by myofascial dysfunction in and around Gluteus medius and Tensor Fascia Latae. Andy has co-written a paper on this subject which is below. Rehabilitation is quick and is also accompanied with running reducation and gait assessment to correct long standing or trigger causes.
Andy will be presenting work and his thoughts on these subjects in 2010 in Bath, Innsbruck, Puerto Rico and Singapore.
